John's 2010 Motorcycle Trip July 1-5
After taking the bike to Santa Clarita, I leave the trailer and begin my ride over to the coast and up Hiway 1. First stop is in Grover Beach to see our dear friends, Russ and Wilma Werts, who we knew 20 years ago in Georgia.
After a nice visit I head up the coast stopping at Morro Bay.
Countless nice views and beaches along the way.

I tied a handkerchief to the handlebar to try to show you how hard the wind is blowing. Really whipping!
These guys could really move out with the high winds.
Ok, I had planned on eating here at this well known restaurant. http://www.nepenthebigsur.com/
This is the view from my seat.

I don't think there are two many places like Big Sur where you can see redwoods, pines, cactus and succulents all growing together.

I make it to my motel in Salinas and I'm on the road by 7 a.m.

One of the highlights of Saturday is riding the "Little Dragon", Hiway 49 between Bear Valley and Coulterville. 15+ miles of tight twisties and panoramic views.
Heading towards Copperopolis and another favorite road, Pool Station Road, I see several lakes.

This road I have ridden before and thoroughly enjoyed it. Highway 26. Peaceful riding through the forest between Hiways 49 and 88.

Made it early to Sutters Creek and relaxed after another 300+ mile day.

I had no idea that on Sunday, July 4 I was going to be in riders paradise. Leaving Sutters Creek and heading to Hiway 88 was pure ecstasy. Fantastic roads, perfect weather, very little traffic. All day was just great.

Kirkwood Lake. Nice little campground here.
Looking towards Kirkwood.
Aw, Virginia Lakes. No wonder I keep coming back here!

After heading over the mountains and down to 395, I decide to take 120 East to Hiway 6 to Bishop instead of going by Mammoth Lakes. I experienced these straight a-ways, twisty roads, roller coaster type hills and....no traffic.

What a ride. The End       Go to Home Page
